Cedarhurst is a village in Hempstead on the South Shore of Long Island. The village is well known to be the fashion center of the area for more than 90 years offering a quaint village charm along with a clean and beautiful environment. The village had settlers calling it home before the American Revolution and British troops occupied most of the properties during the War of Independence. The village received its name from the Cedarhurst Company that purchased land in 1887. The first increase in population was seen after the Civil War when the Long Island Railroad extended to the peninsula. The village became incorporated on September 16, 1910.
The School District offers a high school, middle school, elementary school, preschools, and 4 parochial schools. The population of Cedarhurst which was at 6,164 in 2000 enjoy a wide array of businesses and shops including furniture, interior design, designer clothing for both men and women, carpet stores, and fine dining.
The main attraction is the Cedarhurst Village Park which is the center hub for the community along with Concerts Under the Gazebo and Memorial Plaza. The community is family oriented and offers a country feel that provides families with a close knit community with an array of housing opportunities.
